Rob Harrington Sworn In as Charlotte Mayor

Rob Harrington was officially sworn in as the 60th Mayor of the City of Charlotte during a ceremony held at the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Government Center this morning.

“I’m honored to have this opportunity to serve the people of Charlotte,” said Mayor Harrington. “Charlotte is a world-class city experiencing extraordinary change. Over the next 18 months, I plan to make the most of this opportunity to strengthen internal collaboration, public trust and regional relationships while focusing on our community’s safety, stability and well-being.”

An accomplished attorney and long-standing civic leader, Harrington was appointed by Charlotte City Council to serve the remainder of Vi Lyles’ term. Lyles, who served the city for more than three decades, including five terms as mayor, stepped down effective June 30.

Harrington will serve through December 2027.

“Today marks an important moment of continuity and confidence for our city,” said Lyles. “Mayor Harrington brings steady leadership and a commitment to moving Charlotte forward. I have confidence he will serve with integrity and purpose as mayor.”

Harrington brings extensive experience in public service, having served on the Arts & Science Council, the Charlotte Mecklenburg Library Board, the Levine Museum of the New South Board of Directors and most recently the North Carolina Bar Association, where he served as president. 

A native of Florence, South Carolina, Harrington graduated magna cum laude from Duke University, where he earned his Bachelor of Arts. He earned his Juris Doctor with high honors from Duke University School of Law. He is an attorney and partner at Robinson, Bradshaw & Hinson with a focus on business disputes. 

Harrington and his wife, Sharon, have a son and two granddaughters.
