Project Mona's House To Unveil Report On Trafficking Prevention, Survivor Impact, And Community Solutions In Western New York

WHAT: Project Mona's House is inviting community members and media to attend The Freedom Report, a community gathering focused on trafficking prevention, survivor restoration, and community-driven solutions in Western New York.
The event will bring together advocates, faith leaders, partners, and supporters of Project Mona's House for an overview of the organization's 2025 impact and vision for the future. Attendees will hear from trafficking survivors, youth participants, community partners, volunteers, and organizational leaders.
The evening will also include tours of:

• The Connie Porter Literacy Lab
Project Mona's House is Western New York's first human trafficking restoration home and serves women and girls impacted by exploitation, trafficking, and abuse. In addition to its residential restoration services, the organization operates programs such as the Overcomer Academy for survivors and the Young Women's Empowerment Academy, a prevention initiative serving girls in grades 3–12. WHY: On June 4, 2026, Fillmore District Council Member Mitch Nowakowski wrote a letter to Mayor Sean M. Ryan and Police Commissioner Erika Shields expressing serious concern about open prostitution, narcotics activity, and the exploitation of vulnerable women in the Broadway-Fillmore corridor. Nowakowski noted that individuals are coming from outside the city to prey on women facing addiction and poverty, and called for a coordinated public health and social services strategy focused on intervention and support. As community leaders continue raising concerns about prostitution, exploitation, and public safety in Buffalo neighborhoods, Project Mona's House says meaningful solutions must address the vulnerabilities that often precede exploitation.
The Freedom Report will provide an inside look at the organization's efforts to prevent trafficking before it begins, restore survivors after exploitation, and equip youth and families with tools that reduce vulnerability. The event will also highlight community impact data, survivor outcomes, advocacy priorities, and prevention initiatives designed to address the root causes traffickers often exploit.
