Anniversary celebration will feature the official relaunch of the Institute’s website and a special historical exhibit
BUFFALO, N.Y. — The Uncrowned Queens Institute for Research and Education on Women, Inc. will celebrate its 25th anniversary with “25 Years of Purpose: Preserving Our Stories, Shaping Our Legacy” on Wednesday, September 9, 2026, at 6:00 p.m. at The Buffalo History Museum, One Museum Court, Buffalo, NY 14216.
The free community celebration will commemorate 25 years of researching, documenting and preserving the histories and contributions of African American women and men in Buffalo and Western New York. The evening will feature the official relaunch of the Uncrowned Queens Institute website, a pop-up historical exhibit showcasing photographs, stories and archival materials, Uncrowned Queens books, and a reception celebrating the Institute’s legacy.
“For 25 years, the Uncrowned Queens Institute has worked to ensure that important stories from our community are researched, documented, preserved and made accessible for future generations,” said Dr. Barbara Nevergold, co-founder of the Uncrowned Queens Institute. “This anniversary allows us to honor that legacy while looking forward to new ways of sharing these histories.”
The website relaunch will be presented by Samuel Lieber, Web Designer and Team Lead at Odoo, Inc. The celebration will conclude with a reception and music by Will Holton.
