FMN Movie Review: Spider-Man: Brand New Day

Spiderman swings back into action with the fourth installment of Tom Holland’s version of the wall crawler.  Spider-Man: Brand New Day is set to debut this weekend with a box office projection of $320M to $350M+, according to Deadline. 

‍This is the official plot synopsis of the film from Sony Pictures :

‍It's a BRAND NEW DAY for Peter Parker. Fighting crime full-time as Spider-Man in a world that doesn’t remember him—and the pressure of seeing his old friends move on without him—sparks a change in Peter he may not have the power to control. But that transformation might also be the only thing that can stop a shocking new threat to the city and those he loves - a powerful villain no one can even see. The world may have forgotten Peter Parker, but he hasn’t forgotten them.

‍Spider-Man: Brand New Day, directed by Destin Daniel Cretton starring; Tom Holland, Zendaya, Mark Ruffalo, Jon Bernthal, Michael Mando, Sadie Sink, and Tramell Tillman seems to be the most Spider-man like story than any other film interpretation.  About four years have passed since we’ve last seen Peter Parker in Spider-Man: No Way Home. In this film, Parker goes through many changes from becoming an adult to living a lonely life, then experiencing a body transformation through mutation.  His alter ego as Spider-Man provides his only motivation as he saves the lives of civilians of New York City, creates new combat tech, and accepts gratitude from the public.

‍As expected, a new villain emerges possessing the power of telekinesis used to further the goal of obtaining something of significance. A warning is issued to Spider-Man about interfering in the villain’s plans. Spider-Man must decide whether to intervene or save his friends from potential harm from the villain’s ability to control their minds.

Spider-Man: Brand New Day includes other beloved Marvel Cinematic Universe characters such as Frank Castle (The Punisher), Bruce Banner (The Hulk), Mac Gargan (The Scorpion), and many surprise cameos.  This gives the film a likeness to the popular 90’s cartoon Spider-Man: The Animated Series.  Additionally, the special effects will have the viewer on the edge of their seats! Since IMAX screening is not currently an option, the Dolby cinema format is recommended. 

At the end of this fourth Spider-Man film, the producers do not follow the previous pattern of providing scenes regarding the next marvel movie. This perplexes the viewers who are used to Marvel movies showing end of credit scenes for an upcoming film.

Overall, Spider-Man: Brand New Day is a wonderful addition to the summer blockbuster movie line-up that will surely earn its expected box office revenue.  It is an entertaining film for general audiences to experience.  The only issue the audience may have is the slow pacing of the third segment due to reduced action and heavy dialogue.
