Michael Crosses Over $1 Billion

One of the most talked about movies of the year, Michael has surpassed $1 billion!  Directed by Antoine Fuqua, starring Jaafar Jackson, Nia Long, and Colman Domingo, Michael is now the highest grossing biopic & musical biopic reigning over Oppenhiemer and Bohemian Rapsody.  Oppenhiemer grossed $978.8 million while Bohemian Rapsody has grossed $911 million.

Michael, released on April 24, 2026 with a production budget of $155 million, has now earned $1,001,707,125.  According to Box Office Mojo, Michael had a domestic box office opening of $97 million and global opening of $127 million.  This gargantuan open had cemented the movie’s success by making an additional 69% of its production budget.

Michael Jackson lived a complex life that very few could ever experience. The film focused on his independence from the Jackson family while executing his goal of becoming the greatest entertainer of all time. The essence of  Michael Jackson’s talent and spirit were captured by the excellent performance of his nephew, Jafaar Jackson.  Jafaar was able to embody his uncle’s greatness in his very first acting performance by dedicating months of hard work learning how to dance and sing like the “King of Pop.”

Michael  Jackson was able to overcome continuous public scrutiny and legal challenges which often dimmed the spotlight of the successful black entertainer. Therefore, it is no surprise that Michael’s  fans have noticed contradictory negative prescreening reviews about the film along with the Rotten Tomato Critic score at 38% and an audience score of 97%.

For now, anticipation of part two appears to sustain the enthusiasm for the next installment which highlights the story of Michael Jackson following the “Bad” tour.
